Constantly struggling to juggle your career and your health? Feel like it's almost impossible? Here are some tips to help you put your health back on the to do list while keeping your career!
1) Allot 8 Hours for Sleep - In order to function at your best during the day you need to sleep and rest your body. Get in a routine of going to bed at the same time every night and set your alarm for 8 hours after your bedtime (maybe a little longer if it takes you a while to fall asleep).
2) 30 minutes of exercise- Make your workout count! ACSM suggests that adults should workout at least 30 minutes a day 5 times a week. So do it, and make it count!! You want to feel accomplished when your done. 30 minutes is 30 minutes so push yourself, it won't be in your best interest to spend that time only putting half your effort in! There are some really awesome programs out there designed to work you hard in a short amount of time. I also suggest you workout right before your normal shower time so that you don't have to shower twice or feel grimy for the rest of the day. Also, if you have some days at work that are much busier than others choose those days to be your rest days.
3) MEAL PREP- This is a big one! Set yourself up for success with the foods you pack for work. Pack your lunch the night before (I pack mine while I'm making dinner because everything out). Also, when you buy your groceries prep then. I grocery shop once a week and when I get home I prep everything! Buy a bag of grapes? Wash them and put them in serving sizes in baggies so you can grab it and throw it in your lunch box. Got chicken for your salad? Cook the whole pack and cut it up! It will last the week no problem. These things take way less time if you do it all at once so just be mindful that 1 hour on your day off could save you two hours during the week!
4) Relax!- Taking time at the end of the day to spend with your family or yourself or whoever it may be is GOOD for you! After all being healthy is part of the bigger picture which is being HAPPY.
